If I need medicine, can I easily get it?

Yes. There are well-stocked pharmacies all over Costa Rica. However, if you have a particular medication you need, it’s best to bring your own. There are rarely 24-hour drug stores, and although in the capital they might be open until 10:00 pm, in most of the country the working hours are from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, some even closing once a week. You can purchase most medications without prescription, including birth control pills, but antibiotics and heavy painkillers require medical issuance. If you have a health concern while in Costa Rica, there are doctors available for consultation in most pharmacies, as well as private and public doctors in most destinations.
