Starting in March of 2015, the budget friendly airline of Southwest will begin flying to Juan Santamaria International Airport in Costa Rica from Baltimore.

For many years now, Southwest has been known as one of the more reasonable carriers in the United States, and now the outfit known for southern hospitality will begin serving visitors both to and from Costa Rica. This is good news for tourists coming from the United States which is currently the number one country that visits Costa Rica. This is also good news for people that are seeking to visit the United States coming from Costa Rica. The only ones that this may be bad news for is the competition.

As of March 7th, Southwest will begin operating daily flights from Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) to Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) in San Jose. The Airline also plans on opening up routes from its Houston Hobby hub in the near future. Southwest hopes to have flights operating in and out of Houston Hobby by October of 2015. The Houston Hobby route will also fly into Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose, Costa Rica.

On average, nine out of ten United States citizens visit Costa Rica by way of flights, and once in country spend upwards of two thousand dollars per person in one visit. Most these visitors are either returning, or will return. All of this plays to the benefit of the economy of Costa Rica, and fosters a stronger relationship between the people of the United States and Costa Rica.

With the announcement made by Southwest, President Luis Guillermo Solis said that it showed a greater interest by the world to visit Costa Rica. President Solis has also been seeking stronger ties with China through technology, education and trade reform, and hopes to announce a direct flight from China to Costa Rica in the near future. This, however, remains to be scene.

As of right now, more and more US airlines are mounting up to offer service to Costa Rica. The tourist season is coming into full swing, and more and more companies would like to get in on the action.
