Sand Sculptures are saving Wall Street
The Save The Americans tourism campaign has reached the pavement right next to the famous bulls of Wall Street in the form of an enticing sand sculpture.
There’s a Howler Monkey, a sloth, a toucan and a sea turtle holding up a sign that reads, “Even A Bull Needs To Be A Sloth Sometimes.” This encompasses much of the sentiment that the current tourism campaign created by the Costa Rican Board of Tourism encompasses. The creatures my not be as striking as the bronzed Bowling Green Bull of wallstreet, but that isn’t really the point, is it? The sand creatures of Costa Rica are putting out the message that even the hardworking US citizens, confined to their office cubicles and tackling the economical world, need to get away, rest and rejuvenate.
The Save The Americans campaign began with a video available online at YouTube and the website. The same animals depicted in the sand sculpture are portray as singing the hit song “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” originally penned by Soloman Linda. The song has been edited to include lyrics more directly related to overworked office personnel, and counter-imposes images of bored and mentally taxed people in office towers.
The campaign will continue throughout the year of 2015, and is focused on visitors coming from the United States as well as Canada (Save The Canadians). In Canada, the Costa Rican Tourism Board will be placing billboards and projecting the above-mentioned video on building walls in high traffic urbane locations of Toronto.
