Making San Jose the Next Big Destination in Costa Rica
The ICT (Costa Rican Tourism Board) is putting together a new package to bring higher numbers of visitors to the capital city of San Jose with a few measures already in place.
The capital city has seemed to fluster many of its foreign visitors with regularity, but the President and the Tourism Board are attempting to change the perspective of the largest metropolitan area of Costa Rica. Some of the measures that have already been put in place to bring about a stronger sense of safety in the capital city include relocating the Tourist Police Headquarters into the area that the Tourism Board is looking to promote with greater efficacy, and also increasing the numbers of tourist police in the area by 49 new officers.
On the agenda for the Tourism Board is boosting the numbers of advertisements of the downtown area and its attractions. Attractions such as the museums, historic buildings, galleries and culinary institutions will be included in maps, brochures, videos, guides and websites aimed at bringing in a larger audience to the national theater, more patrons at local restaurants and greater numbers of visitors to San Jose in general.
The area that the Tourism Board is focusing on begins around the train station and the national park and continues on to the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, the Jade Museum, the Central Park and many epicurean interests which can be found from 7th Ave to 10th Ave. The historic neighborhoods of Amón, Otoya, Aranjuez and Pitahaya will also be given a spotlight in the initiatives, and so will private ventures such as Transitarte, the Art City Tour, Noche en Blanco and other festivals that are held in the downtown area annually.
San Jose has primarily been treated as a stopping off point for people visiting Costa Rica. It may be considered as more of a focal point in years to come as efforts doubled in regards to bringing a greater degree of attention to the events and experiences that people can take part in in the capital.
