The Province of Heredia Costa Rica
Bordered by Alajuela, San Jose, Limon and Nicaragua, the province of Heredia, Costa Rica is an epicenter of commerce and the agricultural Northern Plains.
Coffee plantations, waterfall gardens, churches originally constructed in colonial times and waterfall gardens are just a few of the attractions in Heredia Province, Costa Rica. The northern plains of Costa Rica make Heredia an excellent location for cultivating one of Costa Rica’s most prolific exports, coffee. Coffee beans from Costa Rica have often been rated as being in the ranks of the best in the world, and the coffee plantations in Heredia are a good place to explore this massive and savory industry.
The urban areas of the capital city of Heredia, Costa Rica, are not as rushed as that of San Jose, and the neighboring city of Alajuela, at around twenty minutes away, is where you will find the Juan Santamaria International Airport. In the central park of Heredia can be found the Church of the Immaculate Conception whose construction began in 1704. The first church was a wooden structure, but the current church is made of adobe and brick with 20 stained glass windows that were imported from France.
Outside of the urban areas, the national parks, rivers and wildlife preserves serve the interests of naturalists and adventurers alike. The primary forest of Braulio Carrillo National Park, with the river tributary of Sarapiqui, has a high level of bio-diversity, and many people enjoy rafting trips where they can observe the forest and its inhabitants from the river. The forest ranges from lowland tropical rainforests to mystifying and elevated cloud forests. Braulio Carrillo is one of three major national parks with the others being Poas Volcano National Park and Barra Del Colorado Wildlife Refuge.
Hotels in Heredia can be found in the urban locations, the wildlife refuges and the small mountain towns. They vary from the more exclusive resort hotels to the simple bed and breakfast or hostelry type of accommodations.
