United States halted three United Airlines flights out of Costa Rica

Maybe, blame it on the weather man instead. A giant snowstorm in the northeast of the United States halted three United Airlines flights out of Costa Rica on Tuesday, January 27th, 2015.

The United Airlines flights of UA1554, UA1080 and UA1081 were all restricted from taking off due to the incoming winter storm Juno. Juno, however, did not do as much damage as the weather prognosticators predicted it would. Where parts of Connecticut and Massachusetts saw a heavy blanket of snow, the New York and New Jersey area, which is where the United Airlines flights were headed, only received a few inches of the 2 feet of snow that had been anticipated.

The travelers were probably not complaining too much. Another day in the warm sun of Costa Rica rather than the frigid temps of the Northeast United States couldn’t be so bad. Seventy three degrees Fahrenheit versus minus eleven in New York is a pretty big difference. Flights were put on hold going out of Newark on Monday, and the Big Apple became a no fly zone on Tuesday. 7500 flights were canceled in the areas of New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and other major hubs of travel in the Northeast through Wednesday, January 28th, 2015.

The two major US airlines of American and United Airlines both canceled their flights in the New York area starting Monday night in fear of flight problems resulting from the storm. Travelers can expect to be grounded through Thursday even though the storm has not been as detrimental as forecasted. New York only saw four to six inches of snow, whereas, further north, The National Weather service has continued to report life threatening circumstances.
