4. Límon to Tortuguero National Park

This isn’t so much a road trip as it is a boat trip. To get to Tortuguero will be an experience in and of itself as you travel through the canals and mangrove swamps that make up the wetland area of the national park. Boat taxis can be found at the piers in Moín or Cariari, and you can expect to see Caimans, Scarlet and Green Macaws and Howler and White Faced Monkeys on your way to Tortuguero. After you arrive, spotting nesting Leatherbacks in the moonlight is one pursuit that you will find on the beach.
