3. Sodas and Pulperías

Restaurants for Ticos in Costa Rica are called Sodas, and the shops are known as Pulperías. At a Soda, you should have a casado (house special) which will usually consist of chicken, beef or fish with rice and beans, plantains and a salad. Head to the Pulpería to buy baked bread, coffee and possibly some homemade confections from the neighborhood.
