Corcovado vs. Tortuguero: Where to go?
Tortuguero National Park
Tortuguero was created in 1975 as an important wetland and area, and an especially important nesting ground for the largest turtles on the earth: Leatherback Sea Turtles. Many people travel to Tortuguero every year to get a look at the giants of the sea as they deposit hundreds of eggs at a time on the beaches and mangrove embankments of Tortuguero. There are also some exceptional sport fishing opportunities a little ways offshore from Tortuguero.
Tortuguero National Park is located in the Province of Limon, Costa Rica, and is only accessible by boat. The boat taxi and boat touring are a big part of the fun when going to Tortuguero, and viewing much of the marine birds, monkeys, crocodiles and caimans are a big part of the allure. Wildlife of Tortuguero consists of pacas, coatis, peacocks, toucans, glass frogs, purple trogons and so on and so forth.
