Yes, you can. Public buses will get you almost anywhere within Costa Rica at very low cost, although the transportation system is not very organized. For example, the stations to different areas in the country are scattered all over downtown San José, and in many you cannot purchase the tickets in advance, literally having to arrive at the station early in the hopes of securing a spot on the bus. If you’re feeling adventurous or are on a tight budget, public buses are a great choice, but if you want to travel more comfortably and arrive faster and with fewer stops to your destination, you have the choice of shuttles, private transports and domestic flights.
