Colorful indigenous Boruca masks, beautiful wooden pots and bowls, delicious artisanal chocolate, world-class coffee, shirts, liquor, beach towels, sarongs, handcrafted necklaces and bracelets. There is plenty to choose from! You will find souvenir shops in almost every town. Puerto Viejo, for example, has a wonderful section on the main road by the beach where all the artisans line up to show their products. Other places are not as organized, but have shops that display local artists and artisans’ work. If you’re in a last-minute rush, you can also purchase gifts at the SJO airport, which has a great variety to choose from, although at a higher price. The LIR airport, on the other hand, does not have much variety, so take advantage of the little shops on the way to it!
