Marino Ballena vs. Marino Las Baulas: Where to go?
Two national marine parks of Costa Rica, Marino Ballena National Park and Marino Las Baulas National Park, will give you more than a few reasons to visit both.
Marino Ballena National Park
Marino Ballena in the Province of Puntarenas, Costa Rica, is named for the migrating humpback whales that visit its waters when the winter takes hold in the arctic waters of the far north. The whales transit often back to the same place as their birth in order to produce the next generations. Whales aren’t the only visitors to the waters around Playa Uvita and Marino Ballena National Park.
Marino Ballena is easily reached via the Costena Sur or Route 34 which extends south from the thriving coastal city of Jaco, Costa Rica. The park serves as a habitat for many marine species and some land species such as sea sponges, shellfish, manta rays, hammerhead sharks, starfish, gardens of sea fans and the neotropic cormorant to name a few. There are also sea turtle nestings to be observed at Marino Ballena.
