Playa del Coco, a beach on the Gulf of Papagayo, is a vacation destination for many tourists from far and wide. The inlet beach of Playa del Coco Costa Rica has played a prominent role in Costa Rica’s tourism industry for a long time and continues to.

Local tourism to “el Coco” has been going on for a long time, but the 1990s spurred an influx of international visitors to the area. Now a burgeoning development along the Pacific coast, Coco Beach offers patrons of the beaches numerous hotels and restaurants a singular experience. From the end of November through December Coco has many visitors from both Costa Rica and abroad.

This is the beach to head to when looking for a party. The nightclubs and beach bars are plentiful, and the discos are packed with shakers and movers. Because of its popularity with both local and international tourists, the beach has become a hot pot for the kind of fun seekers that like to stay out all night until the early morn.

Aside from the hopping discos and bars, you can go scuba diving, snorkeling, sport fishing and any number of watercraft activities. There are also plenty of hotels for the budget oriented or the luxury bound. Some guest houses and resorts include Villa Buena Onda, Hotel La Puerta del Sol, Bahia Pez Vela Resort and Coco Beach Hotel and Casino. These are among the many establishments in the town adjacent to Coco Beach, but there are at least twenty more that can provide lodgings at all economic levels.

When heading to Playa del Coco consider bringing a camera, a swimsuit, a good suit or a flashy new dress, an Oru Kayak and some sand castle building implements. You can spend all your time in the clubs and bars if you want, but you’ll probably want to hit the beach at some point, too. Playa del Coco is a large yellow sand beach in the Bay of Coco, and there is plenty of space for beach fun.

Playa del Coco can be reached easily and in number of ways. It is around four hours from Juan Santamaria International Airport in Alajuela, and just about thirty minutes from Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport in Liberia, Costa Rica. From the capital city of San Jose it is about five and a half hours.
