Could Costa Rica be Central America’s Ibiza?
With events such as the Envision fest, multiple radio programs broadcasting EDM and dozens of electronic clubs, Costa Rica is providing the tonic to get you movin’.
EDM Festivals in Costa Rica
Envision Festival on the Osa Peninsula just wrapped up with more than 80 live acts from near and far in the lineup. The festival, which began February 26th and ended March 1st of 2015, was an enormous celebration of music and life, but it was one of many such events now taking place in Costa Rica. Venues such as the heralded Club Vertigo in San Jose host weekly electronica events, and brings in talent from all over the world, as well.
The Grass Roots Movement
There is also a strong grass roots movement from local artists making waves in Costa Rica. The DJLAB is a music production school in San Jose that brings in overseas instructors such as Sylvain Garcia from France to teach about the latest trends in electronic music. He and others taught at the school, and also performed at the 2014 FIA (International Art Festival of San Jose).
DJLAB
Local artists responsible for the development of the DJLAB include Esteban Howell, who is the director; Felipe Loáiciga, who is taking the natural ambience of Costa Rica and applying it to electronica; and Ramon Solis among many others that are leading the movement in Costa Rica. The DJLAB is open from 1 pm to 9 pm throughout the week, and offers instruction to beginners through advanced students.
Life in Color Festival
The recent Life In Color Festival held in the Pedegral multipurpose event center of Heredia, Costa Rica, is another excellent indication of just how much the electronic genre of music has grown in Costa Rica. Headliners Dmitri Vegas and Like Mike arrived via private jet and kept people on their feet for hours. Life In Color is a touring Electronic event that finds itself in many locations all over the globe including Ibiza.
Tomorrow Never Knows
There are still countless other events and world class electronic performers coming to Costa Rica with more and more frequency. A large tourist scene definitely contributes to the growing number of performances, venues and artists that are making their way to Costa Rica’s beaches, mountains, clubs and event centers.
