Did you know that scientists estimate that around 80 percent of life in the rain and cloud forest is found in the trees? So, to be able to completely live the experience we decided to take the Costa Rica Canopy tour.

At the Canopy Tour hosted by Hotel El Establo, you can do 16 platforms, 3 monkey bridges, 11 zip lines, 1 rappel, a Tarzan swing and a superman, but there are a few companies in the area that offer the service, so you have plenty to choose from.

Most of the Costa Rica Zip Line tours are approximately 2 hours long and all of them are certified and secure. All tour guides are specialized in adventure tourism and all equipment is fully tested before you jump off the top of the first tree. Each strap carries 3000kilograms and the harness can support around 10 thousand pounds.

The Costa Rica Canopy tour is not only for the most adventurous type of tourist, it’s a very nice experience and a great opportunity to go outside your comfort zone.

So where did canopy came from? Well, Roy told us that we owe the canopy as we know it today, to a couple of biology students Donald Perry and John Williams, that back in the 70´s decided do ascend a tree instead of a rock. They were perhaps reckless, but without knowing it they began to change first the way studies were conducted and secondly they created a new form of adventurous tourism.

Not long after that, they introduced something called a Tyrolean traverse, which allowed all researchers to slide between trees without actually having to descend from it; and that my friends, is how Canopy was invented, as a way to facilitate work for biologists and researchers.

Today there are hundreds different zip-line or canopy tours available for tourists all over the world; and our beautiful Costa Rica is recognized as one of the first original locations to offer it.

You can visit Monteverde and do the Costa Rica Canopy tour the whole year, but between March and May are the best months to spot the majestic resplendent quetzal and the Bare-throated Bellbird. So join us in Monteverde at the canopy tour.
