Marino Ballena vs. Marino Las Baulas: Where to go?
Marino Las Baulas
Marino Las Baulas National Park is more akin to Tortuguero National Park for its mangrove swamps than Marino Ballena, and it has in fact been declared an important wetland by the RAMSAR Convention as has Tortuguero. It is an important park for aquatic birds, and it also sees nesting sea turtles that visit the swamp embankments and beaches. It is a part of the Tempisque River Conservation Area.
Marino Las Baulas is located in the Guanacaste Province, and is close to several world class surf spots that make for another reason to go to the area. The park is filled with many species of birds, reptiles and others, and some of the wildlife you can expect to see at Marino Las Baulas includes raccoons, howler monkeys, leatherback turtles, olive-ridley turtles, sandpipers, herons and many more.
