Costa Rica is visited by some lovely migrations of whales, dolphins and manatees that are often found in the Pacific or Caribbean during the winter months.
Humpback Whales head to Marino Ballena National Park in the province of Puntarenas to give birth to their calves in the warm tropical waters in the winter. They migrate from the cold northern and southern seas to the place where they themselves might have been born to continue the cycle. Bottlenose, Common, Blue Spotted and Spinner Dolphins all make their way to the marine areas surrounding Costa Rica.

Depending on the season and whether you are on the Pacific side or the Caribbean side of Costa Rica, you will see one or a few of these species at places such as Tortuguero National Park, Cahuita National Park, Marinas Las Baulas National Park and others.
