Discover a world of Biodiversity in Costa Rica Wildlife

This small piece of land houses a paradise. The Costa Rica Wildlife is thick, colorful and full of energy that will certainly make you feel renewed after an enticing vacation to wonderland. This country is like a small bag full of more surprises that it would seem to hold.

Covering only 0.03% of the global landscape, it is called home for 5% of the earth’s total biodiversity, do the math… All surrounded by astounding sceneries that vary in a matter of a few miles such as thick rain forests, very dry plains, foggy cold mountains and heavenly beaches in this priceless tiny jewel.

It has taken more than a lifetime of research and studies to cover the entire Costa Rica wildlife and almost every day a new species is discovered. The local government makes it a big educational requirement and responsibility to teach about the importance of protecting the wildlife of Costa Rica and sustainable energies.

The same relevance is given to inform all visitors, local and foreign about the best practices to respect the boundaries of Costa Rica wildlife and the surrounding ecosystems. Be certain that you will not have enough time to see all of the biodiversity this country has to offer, but not to worry… you will see plenty, even more than you can imagine.

A complete Costa Rica wildlife guide must dedicate a good space to each species, a subcategory specialized in every variety of living creature you will find in this country.
The following is a short detailed list of the majority of Costa Rica wildlife by species:

  • Invertebrates: Not so much the main attraction in Costa Rica but they do hover a big space all around the country outnumbering the rest of the animals and many could easily become the highlight of your tour. Not everyone can tolerate bugs or spiders which is why it is good to give a small warning that you will probably be part of a close encounter with a certain kind of invertebrate creature during your stay. Some reserves have a collection of these animals found in their land or in other regions nearby, most of which you probably have never seen and will be surprised.
  • Reptiles: This type is not all about snakes, it also covers crocodiles, geckos and related species, caimans, iguanas and the almost immortal sea turtles. A warm place like this country if the perfect house for this type of Costa Rica wildlife, who highly enjoy the pleasant rays of sun. This family is sure to have a representation in every part of Costa Rica, of course they are more easy to find and more prominent in the less civilized places that are surrounded by mother nature. Beware of open places since they could sometimes look for shelter in drier land.
  • Amphibians: Incredible and almost mystical colors cover some of the world’s smallest frogs. Around 174 different species (with the chance of being more) are seen throughout Costa Rica.
  • Birds: This country is the perfect destination for bird watching enthusiasts. With more than 840 species, those coming to enjoy the views of the tree top residents will not be disappointed.
  • Mammals: Most of the main characters of every tour and touristic attraction. They reside in all forest areas rainy or dry. Some critters have lost their fear of humans and could show up at your hotel for a quick inspection of the garbage cans or unattended food. All these under the watchful spectators enjoying the pool or sunbathing. At night is when most of these creatures come out and “play”, you will hear the Congos hauling nearby, or if you go for a nocturnal hike you might see a friendly faced coati, an armadillo or those dark knights that are the bats.
  • Sea Mammals: Dolphins and whales, their majestic size and their almost theatrical jumps above the water level make them the most fascinating creatures to photographs or film during the specialized tours. Underwater there is an infinity of Costa Rica wildlife expecting your scuba visit, make sure to check available tours when you come.

Seems impossible that so many wild creatures can live in one small place like this isn’t it? Do not let others tell you, come see it for yourself. An encounter with Mother Nature at its best comes sporadically in life, especially in today’s civilized world. The Costa Rica wildlife gives you the opportunity of a lifetime to add the most beautiful images to your mind’s vacation photo album.
